Job Description:

The Sharia Review and Compliance Officer will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. The Shariah Review and Compliance Officer will provide regular assessment on Shariah compliance in the activities and operations of the Bank with the objective of ensuring that the activities and operations carried out by the Bank does not contravene Shariah principles.
  2. To provide and propose possible Sharia compliant solutions for Sharia related issues in financial transactions.
  3. To do an at least annual review of the BMA Investment and credit sectios’s activities and if required also the operation section to ensure the Sharia compliance in banks activities, inclusive of:
    1. Determining whether transactions in relation to Sharia compliant, products and services offered by the BMA during the year were in line with guidelines approved by the Sharia Board and DAB’s regulations;
    2. Consulting with the BMA service providers and external auditors; and
    3. Discussing preliminary findings with the management of the BMA;
  4. To produce report subsequent to the review above to Sharia Review and Compliance Manager and Chief Sharia Officer and he may share the same with Sharia Board management.
  5. Sharia Reivew and compliance Officer will do continuous assessment from the local laws and regulatory review of the Shariah Compliant activities to ensure compliance at the regulatory level and inform the Shaira Review and Compliance Manager.
  6. Assisting all sections of BMA especialy the business related areas in regards of sharia related issues.
  7. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the line manager from time to time

Job Requirements:

Nominees should meet the following minimum criteria:

Educational and certification:

The proposed Sharia Review and Compliance Officer shall at least either have qualification or possess necessary knowledge, expertise or experience in the following areas:

(a) Atleast BA in Islamic Studies.    

(b) Islamic transaction/commercial law (Fiqh ul-Mu'amalat).   

(c) Knowledge of or at-least familiarity with the banking industry.   

Experience

  • Strong knowledge of Shariah & law or Fiqh ul Mu'amalat or experience of at  least 3 years giving religious rulings or Banking experience. 
  • Knowledge of or at-least familiar with the banking industry. 

 Knowledge-Skills-Abilities:

 Adequate understanding of Shaira as well as the bank's business, operations and risks;

  • Proficiency in local languages and English, both oral and written
  • Excellent communication skills;

TRACK RECORD 

  • Has not been associated with any illegal activity especially relating to banking business. 
  • Has not been convicted any criminal offence, involved in any fraud/forgery, financial crime etc. 
  • Has not been disqualified by DAB or court.
